Rosalie Jeanne Hamilton (1929 - 2010)
On September 19, 2010, Jeanne Hamilton was reunited with her husband, Sherman, at her homecoming with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She died at home in Bakersfield, California, after a short battle against cancer.
Jeanne was born on January 13, 1929, to Lealun and Ruth Currie in Strathmore, California. She attended Harmony School, Sunnyside Elementary, and graduated from Strathmore Union High School in 1946. After high school she briefly attended a business school and then worked at Carins Corner and the Ben Franklin Store in Lindsay, California. Later on she worked at the Sequoia National Forest---Giant Forest Lodge where she met the love of her life, Sherman Lee Hamilton. They were married on November 1, 1956. They lived in the Lemon Cove, Strathmore, and Porterville areas, where they raised 3 sons and 2 daughters. They attended Westfield Church of Christ (Westfield Christian Church) in Porterville, California.
Jeanne loved to cook, crochet, sew, and make quilts for her family. She enjoyed trips to the mountains and beach. Jeanne was an avid crossword puzzler. She especially enjoyed her summer job of cooking for Sierra Christian Service Camp. For the past 20 years she had split her time living with her children in California, Illinois and Oregon, and with her sister in Washington. She loved the Lord and served Him faithfully. You could find her every morning with a cup of coffee, sitting at the kitchen table reading her Bible.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband of over 25 years, Sherman; and her parents Lealun and Ruth Currie. She is survived by her sister LaVonna Mason and husband Robert; 3 sons James and wife Brenda, Dennis and wife Cathy, and Kevin and wife Dana; 2 daughters Sheryl Hamilton Espey, and Kelly Watterson and husband Johnie; 14 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A graveside service will be held Friday, September 24th, at 10:00am, at Vandalia Cemetery, Porterville California, Myers Funeral Service & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sierra Christian Service Camp, 44503 Old Stage Road, Posey, CA 93260-9725.
