Elva L. Brohard, 86 - Brohard
The Hur Herald (04/04/2005)

Elva Lillian Brohard, 86, went home to be with the Lord on April 2, 2005, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. She will be very missed by all who had the opportunity to know her.

Elva was born March 31, 1919, on her parent's farm in Ritchie County, near Brohard, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late Harvey and Daisy Haught.

Elva was a devoted wife of Argil O. Brohard, whom she married on Sept. 23, 1937. Together they owned and operated different general stores, they also worked as contractors for Sears for a number of years. She also worked at Cairo Garment Factory and B.F. Goodrich in Grantsville.

Elva spent most of her years doing what she enjoyed the most, being a loving Christian wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She touched many lives with her loving disposition and precious smile. She always knew how to smile even through adversity.

She presently lived in Vienna with her daughter, Marjorie, but lived most of her life in the Brohard and MacFarlan, W.Va., area. For many years, she was the secretary treasurer for the Straight Creek Baptist Church in Brohard. She presently attended Calvary Memorial Church in Parkersburg. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and, in the past, sang at various functions at her home area of Brohard. She was a member of the Eastern Star of Cairo, Chapter 39.

She is survived by her three children, Rose Marie Tanzey and Marjorie Ruth Lynch, both of Vienna, and Argil Dwight Brohard and his wife, Joani Smith Brohard, of Mineral Wells; four sisters, Doris McClain of Big Isaac, W.Va., Pauline Holler of Massillon, Ohio, Eleanor Powell of Lexington, Ky., and Josephine Sperry of Philippi, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Hart, Kayleigh Dye, Zachary Dye and Whitney Dye; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Makayla Hart; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Argil O. Brohard; her parents, Harvey and Daisy Haught; brothers, Alva, Delphord and Leonard Haught; and sisters, Dolly Haught and Dessie Fox.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Memorial Church, Wayside Road Farm, Parkersburg. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Pastors Joe Busch and Rob Collins will officiate the service. Burial will be at the Hartley Cemetery in Brohard. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. today at the Kimes Funeral Home.
