Dorcas H. Cain, 80, of Big Bend, WV, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010.
She was born Nov. 24, 1929, in Friendly, WV, a daughter of the late Horace L. and Gwendolyn Hoskins Haught. She attended Calhoun County High School and was a 1946 graduate of Clendenin High School. She obtained a degree from Marshall College and retired from Marshall College and retired from managing Cain Veterinary Clinic. She served the county on the Board of Education, first elected female; FHA Board, Brooksville PTA, Girl Scout leader, and various other comunity services. She loved to read and gave away hundreds of books over the years. She was a member of Brookside Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and served as libratian. She also belonged to Phoebe Cunningham Chapter of DAR, when it was active in the county.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Joseph T. Cain; a daughter, Jane E. (Keith) Lynch; two sons, Daniel J. (Barbara) Cain and Richard E. Cain; five grandchildren, Susan, Sarah and Sam Lynch, and Shaina and Megan Cain; two brothers, James (Wannalee) Haught and H. L. (Carol) Haught Jr.; and many nieces, nephews and many friends.
Prededing her in death, in addition to her parents, was an older sister and frequent traveling companion, Burdeale Wright (Keith).
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Calhoun County Library Fund. Services were held Thursday, Oct. 14th, at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, WV, with the Rev. Charles McDonald officiating. Interment followed in Broomstick Cemetery, Five Forks, WV.
