Marjorie L. (Hayes) Berthiaume, 97, of the North End section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, April 12, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Putnam, Connecticut on October 25, 1916, a beloved daughter of the late Horace B. and Eva M. (Sponcey) Hayes. She was raised in Putman and graduated from local schools there. She furthered her education and later graduated from Becker Junior College in Worcester before moving to Springfield around 1979. Most of all, Marjorie was a loving wife, mother and homemaker who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, J. Ernest Berthiaume who was Called Home on December 14, 1986; and her loving son-in-law, Elias Costa who was Called Home on July 23, 2008. She leaves her devoted daughter and best friend with whom she lived, Marsha L. Costa and her companion, Robert Frazier; her three cherished granddaughters, Mavis L. Wanczyk and her partner, Rick Lord, Jocelyn A. Dupre and her husband, Louis, and Shanna L. Sutton and her husband, Michael; her four cherished great-grandchildren, Marlee L. Wanczyk, William Wanczyk, Jr., Gavin M. Sutton and Brady M. Sutton; and her dear niece, Suzanne Jalbert and her husband, Paul, of Southbridge. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, April 15, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery, 292 Hampden Street, Chicopee, MA 01013.
