Irene Haynie Bird
An elect lady returned home on August 16, 2002.
Irene Haynie Bird, 92, came into the world on Jan. 18, 1910, in Manassa, CO. Her parents were Robert M. and Lydia Belinda Stover Haynie. She was the eighth of eight living children.
Irene served an LDS mission to the Eastern States in 1930.
She earned degrees from Brigham Young University in home economics education and from the University of Utah in special education. She taught special children for 23 years in the Salt Lake and Jordan school districts.
Irene married Howard Alleman Bird, June 28, 1934 in the Salt Lake Temple. She has two sons and one daughter, Bruce (Janet) Mansell) Bird; Gary (Betty Buchanan) Bird, and Judith Lynette (Larry) London; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She has served in every auxiliary of her church in numerous ways, and was a temple worker with her husband in the Salt Lake Temple. Irene left a legacy of faith and service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Leonard, Earl, Harran, Winfred and Anthon Haynie; and two sisters, Elsadie and Adella Haynie and two still born sisters.
In lieu of flowers, Irene was hoping to encourage support of the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.
A viewing will be held Friday, Aug. 23, 2002 at from 6-8 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South. Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m. at the Monument Park 7th Ward, 1794 South Texas St. (2380 East). Friends may call at the chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment, Mount Olivet Cemetery.
