Albert H. "Speed" Haynie, 83, of East Moline, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.

Military honors were conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246.

Speed was born Dec. 17, 1917, in Kirksville, Mo., to Elbert and Goldie Skaggs Haynie. He married Dorothy Welvaert Feb. 8, 1941, in Davenport. She preceded him in death June 11, 2001.

He served in the Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war.

He was a founder of Speed and Floyd's Body Shop, Moline, and worked in the trade for over 50 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of American Legion Post 246, past commander of the Newark, Ark. American Legion Post, a charter member of the Tri City Motorcycle Club and a life member of the American Motorcycle Club.

Survivors include one daughter, one son, eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, sisters, Dorothy Baker and Wilena Cramer, and brothers, Kenneth Haynie, and Robert Haynie.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and son, Richard Haynie on June 8, 2001.
