Sara Elizabeth Ayers, 71, of Woodland Drive, Vienna, died Monday afternoon in St. Joseph’s Hospital.
She was born in Marietta, a daughter of Kathryn E. Cochran Henderson of Marietta and the late Edward E. Henderson. She was a member of Memorial Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal. She was a 1935 graduate of Williamstown High School and attended Marietta College, where she was a life-long member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, the Valley Rose Society and West Augusta Historical and Genealogical Society. She was a retired employee of the Bureau of the Public Debt.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Robert R. Ayers; one son, Robert H. Ayers of Scott Depot, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Brien Douglas Ayers and Kelly Elizabeth Ayers, both of Scott Depot; one sister, Kathryn L. Waybright of Marietta.
Services will be Thursday, 1:30 p.m. at Vaughan Funeral Home with the rev. Arthur L. Bennett III, the Rev. Charles P. McCabe III and the Rev. Anne Kinney officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Williamstown.
