Mrs. Lorraine Burns, 91, of Fairmont, died Friday night (Feb. 19, 2010) at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born on Feb. 24, 1918, in Fairview, daughter of the late Lora and Georgia Jones Henderson.
She retired from the Marion County Board of Education as the secretary for the assistant superintendents of schools. She also previously worked at Hartley's Department Store. She was a member of the Oakwood Road Church of Christ. Mrs. Burns was one of the early winners of the Golden Horseshoe.
Mrs. Burns is survived by one daughter, Ruth Ann Burns of Fairmont; one sister, Mary Lois Retton of Fairmont; one brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Anne Henderson of Columbia, Md.; and sisters-in-law, Betty Henderson of Fairview and Doris Burns Eager of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
She also is survived by nieces and nephews, Nancy and Charlie Lawler of Fairmont, Patrick and Ryan Lawler of Fairmont, Ronnie and Lois Retton of Fairmont, Pam and Frank Washenitz of Fairmont, Alen and Ellen Henderson of Fairview, Elaine and Gary McHenry of Fairmont, Brenda and Allen Lloyd of Ohio, Douglas Henderson of Arizona and Douglas Henderson of Texas. She also is survived by several great-nieces and -nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Burns in 1996; and one brother, Albert Henderson.
Friends may call at Ross Funeral Home, 801 Fairmont Ave, Fairmont, from 1 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday. Services will be held at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Brent Gallagher and the Rev. Melvin Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery.
