Royce "R D" Hendrix,60, went home to the Lord on Saturday, April 9, 2005 in Houston, Texas. He was born July 9, 1944, at Snowball, Arkansas the 5th son of Roy D. and Floy Hampton Hendrix.
He graduated from Snowball High School in 1963, was a member of the Arkansas National Guard for six years before beginning construction work in Indianapolis, Indiana. He joined the Central Indiana Carpenters Union Local #60 in 1975 and was a member in good standing at his death. Until the last two years he could be found working in his vegetable garden, planting trees and flowers around the house, as he enjoyed the outdoors. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a devoted son and brother.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy D. Hendrix, one brother, Rudolph Hendrix, and an infant son, Joey Michael.
R.D. is survived by his mother, Floy Hendrix of Snowball, Arkansas; his wife of 38 years Joan Elizabeth Horton Hendrix of the home in McCordsville, Indiana; daughter Lisa Marie Boyland, her husband Rob Boyland and three granddaughters, Kayla, Haley, and Chloe Boyland, of Pendleton, Indiana; and daughter LTJG Amy Elizabeth Hendrix of Naval Air Station-Pensacola, Florida; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane and Pauline Hendrix, Springdale, Arkansas; Lavern and Emma Hendrix, Canyonville, Oregon; Linvile R. and Shirley Hendrix, Springdale, Arkansas; Mrs. LaVerne Hendrix of Marshall, Arkansas; and one sister and brother-in-law, Anna "Susie" and Johnny Horton, Snowball, Arkansas; brothers in law Barry Horton of Garland, Texas and Nickie Horton of Harrison, Arkansas; Ten nephews and two nieces, aunts, cousins and a host of friends.
Services will be held Thursday, April 14, 2005 at Roller Coffman Chapel 2 PM in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro Glen Griffin officiating; burial will be in Canaan Cemetery next to his son, Joey. Pallbearers will be Johnathon Horton, Lyndon Hendrix, Frankie Hendrix, Bill Hendrix, Tom Lynn Hendrix, and Nickie Horton.
Donations may be made to your local chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or charity of your choice.
