Henry Henschel Prominent Farmer, Drops Dead of Heart Failure
Sudden Death Comes Saturday While On Way From Field
Death dealt a severe blow to one happy farm home last Saturday when it claimed, without warning, Henry Henschel. One of the best known farmers of New Auburn township in Sibley County.
Mr. Henschel had been doing his usual work and was returning home from the field Saturday when he was stricken with heart failure and passed away.
The deceased was born on September 24th, 1867, in Schernow, Mark Brandenburg, Germany, and had attained the age of 66 years, 1 month and 18 days. He was confirmed in 1881.
In May, 1883, he came to the United States with his parents, the family settling in Green Isle township. The following year they moved to New Auburn township where they purchased a farm, built a home, and settled permanently. It was at this farm home he succumbed.
The deceased was united in marriage to Bertha Krecklau on Nov. 23, 1900, in the Zion church, New Auburn township. Four children blessed this union, namely: Harvey, Mrs. Richard Grochow (Lily), Alice and Sadie.
Henry Henschel was a man beloved by all. He will be remembered for his good nature, cheery disposition, and exemplary character. His departure is deeply regretted by the entire community and the Republic extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
Funeral services were conducted at the home at one o'clock p.m., Wednesday from the home and at two o'clock from the Evangelical Church of Peace in this city, of which he was an active and well-beloved member. Rev. Otto G.A. Eyrich, former pastor here, delivered an English sermon and the resident pastor, Rev. Haack, gave a sermon in German. Interment was made in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were Gustav Brelje, Herman Dalke, John Jacobi, William Schauer, Fred Mielke and John Weckots.
