Clara was the older daughter of Harry Hubbard Heywood and Martha "Mattie" Ellen Presby. She resembled her mother considerably. Prior to marriage on 14 March 1910, she taught in West Waterford, Concord Corner, Brook School (Concord), Gaskill School (Waterford). While teaching at the Brook School in 1909, one student was Annie Laura Killam. When Annie graduated from Montpelier Seminary in 1919, Clara & Wilbur attended the ceremonies. In 1920 Annie was a boarder in their home, while teaching in Peacham. Clara and Wilbur ran large farm with brick house at East Hill in East Peacham, later moving to Passumpsic and running the Gulf station. She & Wilbur built the cottage next to it. They adopted daughter Priscilla Anna Elizabeth Blodgett as an infant. Clara died of cancer.
