Mary Aseneth Nutting Hickman Bailey
Mary Nutting, 16, married Daniel Hickman, 22, on November 4, 1849 in Polk county, Iowa. In 1850, the Hickman's, the Nutting family and many other families totaling 21 wagons emigrated across the plains bound for Gold Rush country.
Daniel Hickman died of Typhoid Fever in Nevada City, California a year after their marriage.
The young widow, Mrs. Hickman, then married Robert Bailey in November of 1851. Bailey had worked for the Nutter family on the Hickman wagon train. Mary gave birth to ten children before she died at 41.

Mrs. Bailey's death
"C.H.C." writes to the Occident, about Mrs. Robert Bailey, who died in Tomales, on the 22d ultimo, as follows:
She was born Sept. 8, 1833, and departed this life in the full triumphs of the Christian faith.
She called her children, seven in number, to her bedside and gave them a mother's farewell blessing. In the last earthly struggle she clasped her husband around the neck and tried to utter a few words but could not.
We who stood by the bed side thought she wanted to say, 'Meet me in heaven.'
She made a public profession of her faith in Christ March 3, 1872. She lived a consistent, Christian life and died, as she said, 'Without a cloud between her and her Savior.'
