DEATH OF MRS. ADA BELAND
Ada Hillyer Beland, daughter of the late Geo. S. and Frances K. Hillyer, was born at Grasshopper Falls, Kansas, now Valley Falls, August 17, 1855, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marie Beland Wylie, at Topeka, Monday morning February 9, 1925, aged sixty-nine years, six months and 17 days. Death was due to pneumonia, after a short illness. Here in the old home town she, attending the early day schools, grew to womanhood, and was married to Albert Beland April 10, 1878. To this union two children were born, Reuben J. and Mrs. Marie B. Wylie, who, with Marie's two children, of Topeka, survive. Mrs. Beland is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ella J. Myers, of Garden Grove, Calif., and Mrs. Frances Wilson of Valley Falls; four nephews and three nieces. Mrs. Beland had the distinction of being the first white girl born in the new settlement at Grasshopper Falls. At an early age, she joined the Congregational church at the Falls later transferring her membership to the Presbyterian church at Holton where the family resided several years and where Mr. Beland, a well known druggist, died June l9, 1907. She will be sadly missed by her two grandchildren, Cecil and Kathleen Wylie. She was their loved and loving pal and alwavs one of them, where she made her home when not here with her sister, Frane, and old friends. She was a charter member of the first chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star at Valley Falls, and members of the second chapter attended the funeral. A loved and loving mother and grandmother, dear sister and aunt, a good neighbor and a woman of beautiful Christian character, she was beloved by who knew her. The body, accompanied by her children; Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Beland and Mr. and Mrs. Will Wylie and two children, of Topeka, her sister, Mrs. Frane Wilson; her nephews, Geo. and Leigh Myers, of Kansas City: Albert Myers and sister, Ada, of Kiowa, was brought to Valley Falls Wednesday morning, and taken directly to the Federated church, where funeral services, conducted by Rev. I. N. Held were held, with the relatives and many friends present. The hymns of hope were sung by Mrs. Lou Hauck, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Legler and Mr. Milton Schindler, Mrs. Milton Schindler, pianist. The Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery by the slde of husband and other loved ones.
