Walter A. Hindemith, 82, former longtime Bismarck resident, died July 23, 2001, in Glendale, Ariz. Memorial services were held July 26 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Arizona. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, at a later date.

Walter was born Oct. 6, 1918, in Eureka, S.D., the son of Fred and Christina Hindemith. He graduated from Ashley High School.

Walter and his brother, Oscar, opened and operated Hindemith Tin Shop in Bismarck in 37 years. In addition to his heating and air conditioning expertise, he was an excellent tinsmith who created and designed unique sheet-metal projects in the Bismarck area.

He married Frances Maxfield in 1945. They were married for 43 years. Fran died in 1988. He met and married Robert Pellerito and they eventually moved to Glendale. Roberta also preceded Walter in death.

He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Dakota Drifters, the National Campers and Hikers Association, and the Eagles.

He is survived by five daughters, Virginia Morris, Zephyrhills, Fla., Crystal Roy, Grand Forks, Doris Hindemith, Phoenix, Betty Osborn, Sioux Falls, S.D., and B.J. Eick, Bloomingdale, Ill.; two step-children, Marie Pellerito, Glendale, and Tom Pellerito, Canton, Mich.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials to be sent to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, Ariz. 85014-5656.
