The Rev. Deborah Hoey Buffalo, 45, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

A native of Cleveland County, she was born Feb. 13, 1961, to Mary Hunt Hoey of Shelby and the late Clyde R. Hoey. Deborah was a 1979 graduate of Shelby High School and furthered her education by earning associate degrees in business from Cleveland Community College and in nursing from Isothermal Community College. She was employed as an LPN with The Brian Center in Concord.

She was a former member of Antioch Baptist Church and was a member of the Gospel Supremes of Shelby. She later joined Zion Hill AME Zion Church in Concord and was consecrated as a deaconess. She was ordained as a minister in September of 2003, serving as an associate minister at Ebenezer AME Zion Church in Waxhaw, working beside her husband, The Rev. Michael Buffalo. She also served as president of the Missionary Board.

Deborah will be remembered for her radiant personality and her calming, compassionate spirit. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, John and Amanda Posey Hoey and maternal grandparents, Alexander and Maggie Barrow Hunt.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of eight years, the Rev. Michael Buffalo; one son, Torres England of Shelby; two daughters, Tamerriell Hoey and Tanisha England, both of Shelby; stepchildren, Michael Wynn, Anthony Buffalo and wife, Jeanette, and Devona Tasco and husband, Michael, all of Philadelphia; one brother, Clyde R. Hoey Jr. of Butner; two sisters, Sharon Hoey-Cannon and husband Bobby V. of Lawndale and Roselyn Hoey-Opuku and husband Jerry of Alexandria, Va.; grandchildren, Tarayjah, Taraus, Takiyah, Taiylor, Nia, Samad Cinea, Devona, Anthony, Hasan and Javier; and a host of aunts, uncle, cousins and friends.
