Nancy had a family with Ibzan, her 1st husband who enlisted 11 Nov 1861 for the Union side of the Civil War. On 7 May 1862, Nancy bore Merritt Lafayette Caldwell to John W Caldwell who was known by all to be a scoundrel, having kept Nancy and her adult daughter, Susan, as 'wives'. John fathered many children with both women. No marriage record exists (to my knowledge) of any marriage to John W Caldwell.
I wonder who Merritt's father truly was as Nancy would've been 3mo pregnant when Ibzan left for the war? Did he know? Or did Nancy cuckold Ibzan with John W Caldwell? Only DNA would know at this point.
