Died at Hospice this morning around 6 a.m.








— Susie A. Conaway, 78, of Brunswick, passed away Monday morning at Hospice of the Golden Isles.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chapman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Michael Batten officiating. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Mount Pleasant. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Wednesday evening.

Survivors include her husband, Carl G. Conaway Sr.; a son, Carl G. Conaway Jr. (Joy); a daughter, Syndie L. Conaway Tyre (Herby), all of Brunswick; a daughter, Darette F. Conaway Acree of Daytona Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Colvin Hope (Wylene) of Brunswick and Kinnon O. Hope (Mary Ann) of Tennessee; three sisters-in-law, Betty Hope and Mary Spell of Brunswick and Jean Hope of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren, Brandi Zakrzewski (Rob) of Sanford, Fla., Matthew Tyre (Jennifer) of Brunswick, Brian Acree of Daytona Beach, Fla., Amanda Conaway of Brunswick; six great-grandchildren, Dorian Mitchell, Anthony Abato, Evin Zakrzewski, all of Sanford, Fla., Corey Melton, Cassidy Melton and Callie Conaway, all of Brunswick; and several nieces and nephews.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Leffler and Callie Hope, and four brothers, Eugene Hope, J.L. Hope, Sammy Hope and Grover Hope.

Susie was born at home in Mount Pleasant, March 26, 1934. She attended Wayne County schools and had lived abroad with her husband, who was in the Air Force, having lived in Virginia, California, Illinois, Nevada and Japan. Upon his retirement from the Air Force in 1976, they moved to Brunswick and made it their home. Susie was a homemaker and attended Fellowship Methodist Church.

The family requests memorial donations to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.
