Iranian Diplomat. He served as Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations from 1971 to 1979. He received a Ph.D. in international law and economics from the Sorbonne in Paris, France and was one of the United Nation's principal architects in drafting the organization's policies on human rights. During his years at the United Nations, he chaired the Committee on International Terrorism and the Committee on World Disarmament. He was the author of "What Do the Arabs Want?" (1991), "The Broken Crescent: The Threat of Militant Islamic Fundamentalism" (2002) and "The Shah and the Ayatollah: Iranian Mythology and Islamic Revolution" (2003). He was the younger brother of former Iranian Prime Minister Amir Abbas Hoveyda. He died at his home from cancer at the age of 82.
