Daughter of Andrew Mehaffey, Esq. and Elizabeth H. McPherson of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

The slate table monument at Mount Auburn Cemetery lists a birth year of 1837 for Elizabeth Law Mehaffey; however, as her parents were married on 05 September 1837 she was undoubtedly born in 1838. I am accepting a birth year of 1838.

I believe that Elizabeth L. Mehaffey Howe was originally buried, in the same plot with Albion Parris Howe, at Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts. They were both re-interred, at Mount Auburn Cemetery, on 12 November 1923.

Elizabeth Law Mehaffey married Albion Parris Howe on 17 February 1859 in New York City, New York, USA.

Brevet Major-General Albion Parris Howe, son of Ebenezer Howe and Catherine Spring, born 25 March 1818 in Standish, Cumberland, Maine, USA (source for 25 March 1818: tombstone, 1897 Cambridge Tribune obituary, and 27th Annual Reunion of the Association and Graduates of the US Military Academy, West Point, New York; Albion Parris Howe; #1066; class of '41); Promotions, brevets and commands: First Lieutenant, 18 June 1846; Captain, 02 March 1855; Major, 11 August 1863; Commissioned Lieutenant Colonel 20th Infantry, 28 July 1866; declined Lieutenant Colonel 2nd Artillery, 10 April 1879; Colonel 4th Artillery, 19 April 1882; Brevet Lieutenant Colonel, USA, 13 March 1865, "for gallant and meritorious services during the war (Civil War); Brevet Major General, US Volunteers, 13 July 1865, "for faithful and meritorious services." In addition to his artillery regimental commands he commanded the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, 4th Army Corps, 2nd and 3rd Brigades, 2nd Division, 6th Army Corps; on the death of President Lincoln, he was selected as one of the twelve general officers of the Army and Navy to act as a guard of honor to escort the remains (of the President) from Washington, D.C. to Springfield, Illinois; Albion Parris Howe was one of the military commission which tried the conspirators who took part with Wilkes Booth in the attempts made upon the lives of members of the Cabinet and in the killing of Lincoln; source: 1897 Cambridge Tribune, obituary; Albion Parris Howe died (a few minutes after 9:00 AM on Monday morning; source: 27th Annual Reunion of the Association and Graduates of the US Military Academy) on 25 January 1897 at his home on Concord Avenue, Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA; Albion Parris Howe re-interred (see Note 1, below), on 12 November 1923 at Mount Auburn Cemetery; Goldenrod Path; Lot 6547.

Massachusetts, Death Records, 1841-1915; Albion P. Howe, male, born c. 1821; birth place: Standish, Maine; death date: 25 January 1897; death place: Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA; age at death: 76; father: Ebenezer; mother: Catherine Spring; died of general failure; cremation at Forest Hills; military officer; father born Sturbridge (Massachusetts); mother born Standish (Maine).

Note: Correctly Albion Parris Howe was born in 1818 and died at age 79.

Note 1: Albion Parris Howe was probably originally buried at Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts, as they handled his cremation in 1897. He was re-interred, on 12 November 1923, at Mount Auburn Cemetery.

Elizabeth Law and Albion Parris had six children:
1 Elizabeth Mehaffey "Lillee" Howe Howe (1860-1942)
2 Katharine McPherson Howe (1865-1935)
3 Albion Parris Howe, Jr. (1867-1867), listed following

Note: The slate table monument at Mount Auburn Cemetery lists a birth year of 1879 for Marshall Mehaffey Howe but this is incorrect; all available public records list a birth year of 1876.
