Amanda J. Gunkel married Charles A. J. Evans on February 21, 1884 in Dallas County, Missouri (FamilySearch: "Missouri, Marriages, 1750-1920," index). By the time of the 1900 census, Amanda had become a widow who had had four children, three of whom were living: two daughters born in Missouri, C. O. Evans born Sep. 1887 and Dona Evans born July 1890; and a son, Charles A. Evans born May 1891 in Arkansas. Another daughter had been born in 1884 in Urbana, Dallas County, Missouri (Missouri Digital Heritage birth records) but had died sometime before 1900.

Amanda remarried in Oklahoma in 1908: "Mrs. Manda J. Evans," 45, born in Kansas, and L. M. Hubbell, 47, born in Indiana, both residing in Minco, Grady County, Oklahoma, were married by Judge N. M. Williams at Chickasha in Grady County, Oklahoma on June 3, 1908 (FamilySearch: original image of marriage record). In the 1920 census, the Hubbells' household in Washington Township of Grady County included her son, Charles A. Evans. In 1930, Lewis M. Hubbell died at home (obit, Vidette Messenger, Valparaiso, Indiana). The 1940 census shows that Amanda and her son Charles were continuing to live in Washington Township
