Sarah was sixth of the twelve children born to William Berry and Mary Jane "Polly" Huddleston. In about 1858 she married George Dalrymple and they had two daughters; Zilphia and Molly. In the Civil War, George was enlisted as a soldier and was killed in battle in 1863. Sarah had other children in later years. Her granddaughter Emily Louella Hale married her school teacher James William Simpkins, and they produced a family of 13 children.

Sarah loved her family and enjoyed several generations around her until her death in 1903. Her grave marker appears to indicate year of birth as 1840, which is incorrect. Multiple family records confirm her year of birth to be 1835.
