Alta Borey, Ill Short Time, Dies
Helped to Operate Hotels in Many States of Union
Mrs. Alta Borey, resident of Lodi since 1931, passed away yesterday morning at 10 o'clock at a local hospital following a short illness. She underwent an emergency operation several days ago. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan and was 67 years of age.
The family had been maintained lately at 424 North School street. She was the wife of A.A. Borey, who operated Hotel Lodi and the Weed Hotel at Dunsmuir until last year.
The couple was married at Angraw, Michigan, in 1896 and during their 46 years of married life they operated hotels and hotel service in various parts of the United States. Mrs. Borey carried her share of the responsibility as a hostess with graciousness and much of their success in their chosen profession was due to her efforts.
Two years after their marriage in 1898, they purchased the Lacross Hotel in Lacross, Wisconsin. After remaining there a few years they sold their interests and bought the Central Hotel at Austin, Minn. After selling there they moved to Marion, Iowa, where they operated the Biggs House, largest hotel in Marion. Later they moved to Mt. Pleasant, Mich., where they operated two hotels.
In 1907 they went to western Washington where they contracted to serve meals for lumber camps and other workers. In 1921 they moved to Compton, California, where they operated a hotel and later to Huntington Beach. They came to Lodi in 1931, remained in charge of Hotel Lodi here until after the big hotel fire of 1940.
