Bess Hull Boswell was born in Louisville, Mississippi, on June 18, 1924, to Archie Reed Hull and Frances Gage Hull. She was Salutatorian of Louisville High School in 1942. She graduated from Mississippi University for Women, the "W", in 1946, with a major in English and Fine Arts.

She was an artist and an author, publishing her last work, a novel, in 2002. She taught high school English and after returning for a Master of Education at Mississippi State University, taught Elementary School in Philadelphia, Mississippi for a number of years. She also assisted her husband in the century-old family business, Boswell Rexall Drugs. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, a past member of the Red Hills Fine Art Club, the New Era Club, and the Noxapater Civic Club. She was an active member of the Noxapater United Methodist Church, a choir member, and Sunday teacher for many years.

Mrs. Boswell, 88, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Church Street Personal Care facility in Ecru, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Friday, June 29, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Noxapater United Methodist Church with Rev. David Meadows officiating and Rev. Roger Shock assisting. Interment will be in Noxapater United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She is survived by her only sibling, Barbara Hull Green, of Itta Bena, and her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Herman Frank Boswell, Sr., of New Orleans, Louisiana. She is also survived by six children, Dr. Susan Boswell Johnstone and husband, Jim, of Pontotoc, Mississippi; Webb A. Boswell, Jr. of Noxapater, Mississippi; Dr. Scott Hull Boswell and wife, Connie, of Jasper, Alabama; David Boswell and wife, Elizabeth, of Kemah, Texas; Kenny Boswell and wife, LeAnn, of Noxapater, Mississippi; and Will Boswell and wife, Joni, of Forest, Mississippi. Mrs. Boswell is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 5 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Webb Boswell, Sr., and two nephews, Richard Jackson Boswell and James Douglas Green.

Serving as pallbearers will be her nine grandsons: Michael Hull Johnson; David D. Richardson, III; Colin Johnstone; Taylor Boswell; Webb Arnold Boswell, III; Chris Boswell; Trent Boswell; Zach Boswell; and Nick Boswell.
