Hazel Hulme Bryan, 87, of Lubbock, Texas, formerly of Whitney, passed away Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, in Lubbock. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Marshall & Marshall Chapel in Whitney with the Rev. Eddie Booth officiating. Interment will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro, Texas. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors.

Hazel was born in Crosbyton, Texas, to the late William Henry "Pete" Hulme and Addie Marilda (Arnold) Hulme. Her family moved to Smith Bend, Texas, soon after her birth. Later the family moved to Valley Mills, Texas, where she attended elementary school. In 1926, the family moved to Whitney, Texas. Hazel graduated from Whitney High School in 1937 and went to work for the First National Bank in Whitney.

In 1939, she married Elbert Edward "Happy" Bryan. After the untimely death of her husband in 1951, she went to work for her dad and brother in the grocery business. In 1964, she went back to work at First National Bank in Whitney until her retirement in 1995. Hazel was a very active in the City of Whitney. She was treasurer of the Whitney Museum and the Whitney Ex-Students Association. In 1996, she was named Citizen of the Year. She was a member of King Memorial United Methodist Church for over 50 years and served on many church committees.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1951; a brother; and a sister.

Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Crow and husband, John, of Grand Prairie, and Dianne Ashby and husband, John, of Lubbock; grandchildren, Gregg Crow and Jeff Crow, both of Dallas, and Whitney Norman and husband, Randy, of Lubbock; several nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and many friends.
