OBITUARIES

MRS. ELLA D. BROWN, wife of the late J.M. BROWN, was born May 11, 1873 and departed this life August 31, 1928, aged 55 years, 3 months and 20 days. She is survived by three sons, L.J. of West Haven, Conn., and CLARENCE and ROBERT, and one daughter, FLORENCE, of Anadarko, and a Host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by REV. SAM D. TAYLOR at the Baptist church Sept. 2 at 2:30 p.m. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery, Chickasha, under direction of Farmer & Grimmett.

Ella Day Hulme (last name pronounced Hull-em) was married to John Martin Brown on October 10, 1891 in Montague (pronounced Mon-Tag) County, Texas. Her husband, John Martin Brown, was born on March 6, 1861 in Effingham, Effingham County, Illinois and he died on July 1, 1928 in Anadarko, Caddo County, Oklahoma.

Ella and John Brown had 5 children.

The oldest to the youngest children were as follows:

Little Joseph Brown, was born on August 7, 1892, in Bowie, Montague County, Texas and he died on June 4, 1971. Little Joe Brown was married to Elizabeth Margaret Carroi on October 14, 1919. Elizabeth Carroi Brown was born on February 3, 1900 and she died on February 7, 1988.

Clarence Lester Brown, my grandfather, was born on October 22, 1894 in Bowie, Montague County, Texas and he died while visiting two of his sons, his youngest daughter, and their respective families out in Atascadero, San Louis Obispo County, California on May 7, 1972. Clarence Brown was married to Mamie Celia King on July 17, 1921 in Chickasha, Grady County, Oklahoma. Mamie Brown was born on June 12, 1903 in Guymon, Texas County, Oklahoma and she died on February 8, 1999 in Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri.

Robert W. (Bob) Brown, was born on September 26, 1900 and he died on December 22, 1972. Robert Brown was married to Eulah Vaughan on June 7, 1923 in Caddo County, Oklahoma. I don't have the birth or death information for Eulah Vaughan Brown. The marriage application shows that Eulah Vaughan was 17 years old at the time that they applied for the marriage license. Then Robert W. Brown was married for a second time to a woman named Josephine M. Vozzo. I don't have any birth or death information about Josephine M. Vozzo Brown.

Florence Roberta Brown, was born on August 8, 1903 and she died on March 18, 1977. Florence Brown was married to William R. Jurth in 1949. William R. Jurth was born on October 18, 1900 and he died in January 1999. Florence and William Jurth had no children.

Roy M. Brown, was born on August 8, 1907 and he died on November 18, 1921.
Roy Brown died from an accident during the Armistice Day parade. Someone threw a firecracker during the Armistice Day parade and Roy Brown caught the firecracker in his hand and let the firecracker blow up in his hand.

The firecracker didn't blow off any of Roy Brown's fingers or thumb, but it did burn his hand badly enough that he got blood poisoning from the firecracker incident and then he later died from the blood poisoning.
