Lois Hunt Allred, 84, passed away Friday, January 11, 2008, at Trinity Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton. Visitation will be 5-7pm today and 1pm Sunday, January 13, 2008, at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street in Jackson. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be 4:00pm at Hazlehurst City Cemetery.

She was born on December 18, 1923 to Herman and Stella Hunt of Sturgis, MS. As a young woman she moved to Memphis, TN and was employed by South Central Bell. She later moved to Jackson where she met the love of her life, Willard Allred from Hazlehurst, MS. After being employed by South Central Bell, now known as BellSouth, for 25 years, she worked at Gayfers Corp., for another 15 years. She then retired for good so she could enjoy her grandchildren – the true light of her life.

Lois enjoyed many activities including gardening, fishing, and playing cards.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Willard A. Allred; brothers, Alan Hunt of Starkville, Rufus Hunt of Sturgis, and Muldrow Hunt of Brandon.

She leaves behind her only child, Marilyn Meadows and husband, Joey of Clinton; her grandchildren, Candiss Johnson Fortenberry and husband, Scott of Minneola, FL, Dawn Meadows of Hattiesburg, Jackson Meadows and Jordan Meadows both of Clinton; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Avery Fortenberry; beloved sisters, Lucille Scott, Irene Scott, and Mavis Posey all of Sturgis, Frances Duncan of Starkville and Louise Hawkins of Montrose, CO; brother, Sam Hunt of Sturgis. She is also survived and will always be loved by many nieces, nephews and friends.
