Obit for Judge Francis E Baker, husband of May (Irwin) Baker

Judge Francis E Baker, of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals, of the seventh district, died at the Windermere Hotel, Chicago, at 2:15 o'clock Saturday morning. Judge Baker had been suffering from illness since last Thanksgiving, and although he had given up his judicial duties last December, hoping to return to the bench this spring his friends had not considered that his illness was of a serious nature.

His death was caused by acute heart disease and he had been seriously ill for the past two weeks with endocarditis. It was believed, however, that he was improving, and was on his way to recovery, until he was suddenly stricken with a relapse.

Mrs Baker, his two daughters, Mrs Donald Defrees and Miss Frances Baker, and his son, John M Baker, were at the judge's beside at the end.

Judge Baker had always been a resident of Goshen and even after his appointment to the federal bench in 1902 he maintained a residence there and spent his summers in that city.

Last summer, when the judge went to California, was the first summer that he had not returned to Goshen. In Chicago the family had for a number of years resided at the Windermere Hotel.
