A Clinton County native, she was born December 26, 1914, the daughter of Charles Martin and Mary Anniase (Stoker) Irwin. She was married October 20, 1939, to Merle E. Cole, and he died November 5, 1972.
Mrs. Cole was retired from Indiana Bell Telephone Co., where she had worked 24 years. She was a member of the Michigantown Christian Church and a charter member and vice president of the church's Women's Council. She also belonged to the Pioneers of Indiana Bell, Farm Bureau and Michigantown Home Ec. Club, and was a life member of Sigma Alpha Chi.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ellen Mattingly of Frankfort rt. 4, and Cathy Rule of Michigantown rt. 1; one brother, Samuel J. Irwin of Frankfort and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Goforth officiating.
Burial will be in Whiteman Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. tomorrow.
