Born in Baskerville, Va., on Dec. 29, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Julian Archer and Nannie Betts Jackson.
Mrs. Atkinson was a former school teacher, worked with her husband, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and a local nursing home, and graduated from Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg, Va., in 1941.
Her husband was the late Charles Vincent Atkinson.
Surviving are a daughter, Valerie Atkinson Mountcastle and her husband, William, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; two sons, Julian Carlyle Atkinson and his wife, Donna, of Hampton, Va., and Vincent Betts Atkinson and his wife, Cheryl, of Seneca, S.C.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. in Greenville Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Kelli Taylor and Rev. Mike Cox officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery prior to the service, from 2 to 3 p.m.
