Macon, GA- Reatha Jackson Chavis, 83, died Friday, June 14, 2013 at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 3:00 pm at Lawrence Drive Baptist Church with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, with Reverend Brad Marchman officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 7:00-9:00 pm at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono. Memorial contributions may be made to Project Linus, care of Lawrence Drive Baptist Church, 5774 School Road, Macon, 31216.
Mrs. Chavis was born in Gray to the late Pauline Beasley Jackson and Andrew Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Chavis, a daughter, Patricia Diane Jackson in 2003, and a son, Gary Roland Williams in 2000. She was a 1946 graduate of Jones County High School. Mrs. Chavis was a member of the Lawrence Drive Baptist Church and Rutland Chapter O.E.S. 418. She served as the vice president and the president of the Pairs and Squares Square Dance Club and was an avid square dancer. She was a kindergarten teacher at Lawrence Drive Baptist Church. She was retired from Robins Air Force Base as a civil service item manager.
