Frances Askew, 81, of the 2700 block of Sunrise Ave., passed away Jan. 18, 2008, in Sentara Nursing Center. She was born July 25, 1927, in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, to the late Sarah and Richard Jackson. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Chesapeake. She was predeceased by her husband, Willie Mae Askew. She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Lillian Drummond, Frances Riddick and Shirley Griffin; one son, Melvin Jackson; one sister, Helen Jackson; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at noon Wednesday in Bethany Baptist Church, 2587 Campostella Road. Dr. Jake Manley will officiate. Interment will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby Street Chapel, one hour prior to service for procession to the church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
