AUSTINVILLE - Helen Jackson Alford, 88, longtime resident of Austinville, VA (Poplar Camp Community) died Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the Pulaski Health and Rehab Center where she has resided for the last several years. She was born in Wythe County to the late Edmond R. & Lockey S. Jackson. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Robert W. Alford, infant son Jimmy Alford, and brothers Herman L. Jackson, Edmond R. Jackson, Jr. and Harold E. Jackson. Mrs. Alford is survived by two nieces and spouse Jacqueline and George Cregger of Austinville, and Patricia H. Patton of Hudson, OH; two nephews and spouses Herman (H.L., Jr.) and Kathleen Jackson of Roanoke, VA and Gerald & Brenda Jackson of Knoxville, TN; several great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and many life long special friends. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008 at Bethany United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Michael Waller, Rev. Earnest Chinault, and Rev. David Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial donations may be made to the Bethany United Methodist Church c/o David Rudy 1184 Lead Mines Road Austinville, VA 24312.
