Mary Ann Jones was born in County Pent, England, Feb. 22, 1830. She was united in marriage to Daniel Buss in 1849, and in 1851 came to America, joining her husband in Buffalo, N.Y. The next year they came to Wisconsin, settling on a farm in the town of Kendall, Lafayette county, where they resided until 1894, when they retired and came to Darlington. Mr. Buss died Oct. 22, 1912. Since that time Mrs. Buss has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. L.A. Bates on Wells street. April 6, 1912, Mrs. Buss suffered a stroke of paralysis which left her helpless and she has been an invalid ever since, but loving hands and hearts have cared tenderly for her until the end which came peacefully at 11 am Friday, October 19.
She is survived by five sons and four daughters, namely: Mrs. Will Dean, Harlan, Iowa, Mrs. T.G. Perry, Harrisburg, S.D., Mrs. Solomon Perry, LeMars, Iowa, J. Thomas Buss, Walnut, Iowa, Charles and William of Harlan, Iowa, Silas, Prince and Mrs. L.A. Bates, Darlington. Three sons, Daniel, Frank and Harry preceded their mother in death. There are also twenty four grandchildren and thirty two great grandchildren.
In her early days she was a member of the Church of England and since became a member of the Congregational church. The funeral services were held at the Congregational church. Interment was made in Union Grove cemetery.
