COBB - Florence Mae Anderson, age 87, of Cobb, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2004, at Bloomfield Manor. Florence was born on Sept. 6, 1916, to Glenn and Lydia (Trankle) James in the Town of Eden.
She graduated from Montfort High School and received her teaching certificate from Platteville Normal Teachers College. She taught elementary school in both the Dodgeville area and in what is now the Iowa-Grant community.
On June 14, 1941, she married Wilson Curtis Anderson in the Otter Creek Lutheran pastor's residence. She and Wilson began farming in 1941. She continued to farm upon Wilson's death in 1959 and remained actively involved in the operation until the mid-1990's.
Florence was always interested in the changing agriculture and opened her home to students and others to learn more about it. She was a lover of productive rural and farm life and believed that agriculture helped to improve the human condition.
Throughout her life, Florence generously gave of her time to support youth in the community. For over 30 years, she served as the general 4-H leader of the Cobb Busy Badgers 4-H Club; touching the lives of numerous young people. She served many years as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent. She was active in community endeavors including local government serving as both the treasurer and clerk of the Town of Eden.
Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Florence valued family and is survived by three children, daughter, Carol, Cobb; son, Jim (Mary), St. Germain, and son, Mark (Beverley), Hudson; grandchildren, Pam (Mike) Tester, Jon, Lindsey and Kathryn; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Emily Tester. In addition, Florence is survived by a sister, Wilma Jones, Dodgeville; brother, Calvin (Joann) James, Livingston; sisters-in-law, Claire James, Platteville, and Winnefred Grideman, Muscoda; as well as nieces and nephews; and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson; her parents; and brothers, Roscoe and Curtis James.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at the MONTFORT UNITED METHODIST CHURCH with burial in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Montfort.
