Alvaro Joseph Jara
January 21, 1998 - April 8, 2015
Alvaro Joseph “AJ” Jara, born on January 21, 1998, passed away on April 8, 2015, at the age of 17.

Survivors include his father, Alvaro Rene Jara; mother, Aurora Marie Shinn and her husband, James; siblings, Dominique Rickert, Joseph Rickert, Nicole Simone Shinn, and Patrick James Shinn; grandparents, Belia Young, Benjamin Tellez, and Gladys Weber; nieces, Jada Marie Rickert, and Annalise Rickert.

What brought AJ the most joy was the time he spent with his family, his Dot, nieces, and cousins, and his 3 year old nieces jumping on him and showing him how to get to “the next level” on his X-Box game.

His cousins, Christian, Pauline, Daniel, Nathan, Bazil, Toni, Kayci, Aaron Jr., and Jordan each in their own special way added to many years of birthday and holiday parties. Celebrations filled with good food waiting for them after many games of “nerf shoot-outs” and trips to San Diego Beach with his parents, Aunt Maritza, Uncle Willie, and cousins, Christian and Paulina.

AJ was blessed to have a loving big brother and sister whom opened up the room in their hearts and lives to accommodate the space that AJ’s sweet baby presence always demanded. Nicole and Patrick adorned his life in the later years by sharing a living room with a sheet hung down the middle for privacy. As with any big brother, he pretended not to care. However, he always knew when it was their weekend to visit and always anticipated their arrival. Patrick challenged him with video games and took his shoes, and Nicole just hung out with him like only teenagers do.

At his viewing, Nicole honored him with a beautiful song that expressed the thoughts that AJ had been struggling to articulate in the weeks just prior to his death.

The most exceptional relationship for AJ began on the day of his birth when he was placed in the arms of his “Dot,” Nikki and Joey’s dad. Dot and AJ had the ability to bring comfort and smiles to each other in a way no other could compare to. They spent many special trips and a tragedy that they were only able to find solace in each other’s presence. They were truly “old friends of the soul.”

For all of you, his family, I am forever grateful for all the many loving and fun memories each of you helped to create in his life. And although his life was cut short in years, he is not short in the love he takes with him. Just as important, your sharing gave me the memories to make me laugh and warm my heart allowing my son to continue to live on in my heart with peace and joy.

I love each and every one of you for the “simple gifts” you brought in to his life, and therefore mine, for which will live on forever. God Bless, Aurora Marie Shinn.
