The inscription reads : "Into thy eternal keeping. BETTY, dearly beloved child of Vice Admiral Sir John and Lady Jellicoe, died Jany. XXV MCMXI, aged V years VIII months. In fondest memory. Gracious saviour, gentle shepherd, Little ones are dear to thee, Gathered with thine eyes and carried In thy bosom may she be Sweetly, fondly, safely treated From all want and danger free." Admiral Jellicoe, who is buried in St. Paul's Cathedral, went on to command the British fleet at the Battle of Jutland.
