Father: Ole Jensen

Mother: Christine [Olson] Jensen

Middle name: KRESTENSE is from birth records of 2 sons; Olaf and Roy.

Olette Jensen and her future husband, Andrew Aadland both emigrated from Norway with their families when they were 11 or 12 years old. According to censuses, they immigrated to the U.S. the same year, either 1879 or 1880. Both families are living in Minnesota by June of 1880.

On 7 June 1880 Hans L. Adlend* (30), wife Melina L. (27), their daughter, Josephine (1), Hans's younger brother, ANDREW L. (12), Hans's brother-in-law, T. Mydland (27), his wife Regnald (26) and their daughter, Jacobina (1) all lived together in Tyro, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. Hans was a farmer. Andrew was a laborer. NOTE: Surname misspelled on original image and index. Regnald would be a sister of Andrew and Hans OR of Melina.

On 24 June 1880 Ole Jenson (50), wife Christine (49), children; *OLETA C. (12), (Hansena)(9), Edward (7) and Jorgena (4) lived in town of St. John, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. All were born in Norway. NOTE: Names spelled as they appear on original image of this census.

On 12 June 1900 Andrew Aadland (b. July 1868), wife *Olette (b. June 1868), children; *Louis (b. Oct. 1889), *Olof (b. Sept. 1891), Henry (b. Oct. 1894), *Salma J. (b. July 1897) and Norma (b. Jan. 1900) lived in Union [Township], Day County, South Dakota. Andrew and Olette had been married 12 years, having 5 children, 5 living. According to this census both Andrew and Olette immigrated in 1880 and he was naturalized. Andrew was a dairyman. NOTE: Enlarge original and can see census taker changed Oletta to Olette. Lewis, Olaf and Selma were also misspelled on this census.

On 23 August 1910 Mrs. A. L. Aadland (40), children; Selma (12), Norma (10), Roy (8), Clara (5) and Ruby (1) arrived in Canada, through North Portal, Saskatchewan, to join Andrew in Carlstadt, (Alberta).

NOTE: In 1909 there was a land rush in the area and Carlstadt was first surveyed in February 1910. In 1911 the population of Carlstadt was 162. By 1913 it had three insurance, real estate and loans businesses, two dry goods and general stores, three lumber companies, two implement dealers, two hardware stores, two pool halls, a drug store; a meat market, a baker, a Union Bank, a two-room school and five hotels, including the three-story Carlstadt Hotel. Unfortunately, in 1914 there was a major fire that wiped out most of the businesses, then a drought that resulted in crop failure and WWI started. The name of the town was changed to Alderson in 1915. Due to another major fire and continuing droughts it is now a ghost town.

On 20-21 January 1920 Andrew Aaland* (51), wife Olette C. (51), children; Henry (25), Selma J. (22), Clarence B. (15) and Olive H. (10) lived in town and township of Veblen, Marshall County, South Dakota. Andrew and Olette owned their home free and clear. This census says both immigrated in 1879 and were naturalized in 1920. Andrew was a thresher of small grains. NOTE: Surname is misspelled on original image.

On 9 April 1930 Andrew L. Aadland (61) and wife Lettie C. (61) lived at 1010 Newell in Bellingham, Whatcom County, Washington. Andrew was working as a night watchman at a fish cannery. NOTE: This census says both immigrated in 1881, which is incorrect. They're both in 1880 census, living in Minnesota.
