Doris J. CARMIN
Spirited mother and grandmother, beachcomber, devil's advocate, and ace Scrabble player, Doris J. Carmin died December 17 at her retirement home on First Hill, just blocks from where she was born on May 8, 1920. Her mother, Dorothy Dolph Jensen, was a noted Northwest artist; her father, Lloyd Jensen, created beautiful hand-carved frames by profession. Doris, herself, was very creative, excelling at pottery, sculpting, basket making, and silk-screen printing. Her children recall growing up in a home where art supplies and inspiration were abundant. A lifelong resident of Seattle, Doris attended Lincoln and Broadway high schools, and graduated from the University of Washington. She lived in Magnolia for half a century, attending Our Lady of Fatima church and, in later years, volunteering for the community's adult daycare center. Doris is survived by her daughter, Anita (Phil) Carmin-Tomisser; son, Lloyd Carmin; and grandchildren, Adrienne, Adam and Paul Carmin-Tomisser. The family wishes to thank the staff at Faerland Terrace, Pat Leckemby, Dr. Thomas J. Smith, and Providence Hospice of Seattle for their compassion and support. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 20, 2002 at 10:00 a.m at Holyrood Cemetery Chapel. Memorials can be made to Catholic Community Services, 100-23rd Ave. S., Seattle, WA 98144. Sleep in heavenly peace, Mom.
