A memorial service for Alice J. Chetlain, 55, of Gig Harbor, will be held Saturday, June 10, 2 p.m. at the Peninsula Lutheran Church, 6509 38th Ave. NW in Gig Harbor. A reception will follow. She died Sunday, May 21, 1989 following a lengthy illness. She was born in Seattle on June 2? 1933, graduated from Ballard High School and attended the University of Washington where she was affiliated with the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Alice was the past president of their sorority alumni groups in Spokane, Lake Oswego, Ore. and Gig Harbor. She was well known throughout the Gig Harbor community and is remembered for her gentility, strength of character, and wit. She is survived by her husband, Arthur L. Chetlain Jr. of their home on Wollochet Bay; three children, Karen Chetlain of Seattle, Anne C. Pearce of Seattle and John R. Chetlain of Tacoma; her mother, Anna Jensen of Seattle; and her granddaughter, Samantha R. Pearce of Seattle, a son, James L. Chetlain, preceded her in death in April 1989.
