Julianne Garrison, 95, of Omak, Wash. passed away on September 9, 2009 at Mid-Valley Hospital in Omak.
She was a full blood Native American Indian of the Colville Confederated Tribes - Wenatchee, Methow, Okanogan and Kartar. Julianne Garrison was born March 20, 1914 to Edward and Catherine Joe of Omak, Wash. She was born in Oliver B.C. and later moved to Omak, Wash. She attended St. Mary's Mission until the fifth grade. Julie worked in the orchards picking, sorting and drying fruit. When she was a young girl, Julie and her mother made buckskin gloves to sell and used the money to buy food and essentials for the home. From 1959-1985 she lived in Seattle where she worked at a seafood processing plant, was a power sewing machine operator and picked fruit and vegetables in the fields of Puyallup, Wash.
Julianne Joe was introduced to Tommy Simpson by her best friend, Louise Waters (Tommy's daughter) when she was a young girl. They had ten children together, Dora, George, Jimmy, Josephine, Mary Jane, Marti, Jody, Penny, Tony and Annebelle. Julie had two children, Mabel and Alex Louie (1932-1950) from a former marriage to Victor Louie. Later in 1958-1984 she was married to Roy E. Garrison.
Julie loved to sew, hunt, fish and she also enjoyed playing bingo and playing the slots. She was a member of the Eagles (Okanogan, Wash.), Moose (Coulee Dam), Colville Tribal Senior Program, Colville Foster Grandparents and was a former member of the Gypsy Jokers of Seattle, Wash.
Julie is survived by her daughters, Marti Widdifield of Casa Grande, Ariz.; Jody Beemer of Spokane, Wash.; Anna Lezard of Elmer City, Wash.; and Tony Simpson of Omak, Wash.
Her family consists of the Peterson, Thayer, Fall, Beemer, Teesatuskie, Simpson, Louie and Waters clans, and many fourth and fifth generations.
Julie was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Catherine Joe; eight children; three sisters; a brother; and a special grandson, Jeremy "Dokey" Alan Ives.
Special thanks to Brad Thayer for taking care of Gram for the last few months, and all the Addus care providers.
