Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Helena (Dennis) and the late Levi Joseph Joe.
Theresa was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni, as well as being a school teacher for 21 years. She taught at Head Start in Eskasoni for eight years.
Theresa had a great passion for butterflies. She was also known as ‘Auntie Mom' to her many nieces and nephew, godchildren and best friends, Rosie Jibby and Marjorie Johnson. Her great hobbie was knitting scarves and socks and selling them to as far away as England.
Theresa is survived by her husband of 30 years, Stephen; a daughter, Selena (Malcolm) Cremo, Eskasoni; grandson, Ekkian Apai; brothers and sisters, Vincent (Louise), Patricia (James), Catherine (Steve), Rose, Veronica (Frank), Pauline, Paul (Charlene), Troy and Glen, all of Eskasoni, and Eleanor (Charlie), Membertou. Also surviving are Karl, John David, Kevin, Kenny and godparents, Walter and Tena Young.
Besides her father, she was predeceased by her son, Ekkian Apai, brothers, Joseph and Noel, sisters, Mary Isabel and Mary Tena.
Visitation for Theresa will take place today (Thursday), Aug. 6, 2009, after 7 p.m. at 97 74th St., Eskasoni.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating.
Interment in the parish cemetery, Eskasoni.
