A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday April 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Crowley for Roberta Hanks John 77, who died Friday April 25, 2014 at 3:54 a.m. in Lafayette surrounded by her loving family.
Msgr. Paul Metrejean, Msgr. Charles Mallet and Fr. Arthur Warren will con-celebrate the funeral services. The family requests visiting hours Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. A rosary will be recited Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. John is survived by her husband, Robert “Bobby” John, Sr. of Lafayette; one daughter, Christine John Casanova and her husband Dr. Robert Casanova of Lubbock, TX; one son, Robert Lewis John, Jr. and his wife Ann Mulea John of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Ana Marisa Casanova of Dallas, TX, Kathleen Casanova Jaynes and her husband Ashley Jaynes of Denver, CO, Robert Lewis John, III of New Orleans, Laura Isabel Casanova of Lubbock, TX, Michelle Ann John of Savannah, GA, Christopher John Casanova of Austin, TX and Joseph James John of Lafayette; four sisters, Myrtle Hanks of Baton Rouge, Sadie H. Redlich of Crowley, Joicy H. Sterling of Beaumont, TX and Guilderie H. Armentor of Lake Charles; one brother, Carl Hanks of Lafayette. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guilliam and Olive Quebodeaux Hanks; two sisters, Ruby H. Saltzman and Alice H. Desormeaux; one brother, Earl Hanks.
After graduating from Crowley High School in l955 Roberta went on to complete a degree from Spencer Business College in New Orleans, Louisiana. From there she worked in the Pentagon in Washington, DC. She returned home and for over 20 years served as City of Crowley Clerk of Court. Later, she served as a clerk in the Parish District Attorney offices. Roberta was a fun-loving and devoted wife of 56 years, an amazing mother, an adoring grandmother and a loyal friend. She was known as a remarkable seamstress and an incredible cook. Many were blessed by her domestic gifts and warm hospitality.
Pallbearers are Robert John III, Christopher Casanova, Joseph John, Ashley Jaynes, Blake Keathley, Charles Duhon. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Abramowitz, Willard Sterling, Jr., Philip Des Ormeaux, Jr.
The John family is grateful to the nurses, caregivers and staff of the 7th floor at Lafayette General Hospital and St. Joseph Hospice for their gentle care of Mrs. John and her family these last few weeks.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
