He was born April 1, 1923, in Tidioute, Pa., the son of Ernest R. and Winifred Holcomb Johnson Sr.
A Warren resident since 1946, he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the second signal corp infantry division as a private. He was employed by Rexnord Inc. as supervisor, retiring in 1985 after 38 years of service. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Tidioute Veterans of Foreign Wars Club and the Warren American Legion Post 135.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Daelhousen Johnson, whom he married Oct. 25, 1941, in Cattesburg, Ky.; a daughter, Joanne Vavala of Titusville, Pa.; two sons: Gary W. Johnson of Warren and Ernest R. Johnson of Lake City, Pa.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, William P. Johnson of Tidioute.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert Heinlein, pastor, will officiate. Full military honors will be conducted by the Tidioute Veterans of Foreign Wars Funeral Detail. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department; St. John's Lutheran Church.
