From what is known from the diary of his unit, and assuming that he stayed with them all the time, it is very likely that he died of either a gas attack or snipers in the area of the Battalion headquarters in L'Eveque Woods just east of Le Pommereuil, France and about 5 1/2 miles northeast of St. Souplet British Cemetery. The Battalion diary for that day indicates 3 Ordinary Recruits killed on October 25, 17 days before the cease fire of November 11. A map of his Battalion's odyssey beginning on August 1st is at
