A native of Warren County, Johnson was graduated from Clarion State Normal School, taught for eight years, in 1906 became a bookkeeper for Warren National Bank and rose through successive promotions to the presidency in 1934. He was president of the board of Warren State Hospital and director of the Corry Water Supply Co. and the G.G.G. Metal Stamping Co.
