Francis served as a Flight Officer & Co-Pilot on C-46A #42-61054, 2nd Air Transport Squadron (Mobile), U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Middlesex County, Massachusetts prior to World War II.
He enlisted in the Army on July 15, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.
C-46A #42-61054 took off, with a crew of 5, from Kalaikunda, India on a Cargo Mission to Chengtu, China. They were contacted once by radio over Lalmonirhat Airbase, India. It was noticed during this radio contact that they were off course due to high winds in the area. They were not seen nor heard from again and are believed to have crashed into a mountain.
Francis was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.
