He resided in Orangeburg County, South Carolina prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on September 23, 1942 at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

B-25H #43-4360 took off from Yangkai, China on a bombing mission. After completing the mission they ran into extremely bad weather and are believed to have crash at sea.

Floyd was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
