Ninilchik resident Agatha M. Johnson, 57, died Aug. 24 as a result of an automobile accident in Fairbanks. A funeral was held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Ninilchik. The Rev. Richard Strauss officiated. Visitation was at the church. Burial was at Ninilchik Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson was born May 15, 1935, at King Island. She worked as a practical nurse while living in Anchorage. In 1978, she and her family moved to Ninilchik where they fished commercially. Mrs. Johnson belonged to the Ninilchik Homemakers and American Legion Auxiliary Post 18. She was best known for teaching Native dancing in the Ninilchik school. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, swimming, bird-watching, berry picking and food gathering.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Melvin of Ninilchik; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Edna of Anchorage; her sons, Garon of Soldotna and Edward of Nome; her brother, John Penatac of Nome; her sisters, Becky Amarok of Anchorage and Cecilia Muakgoyuk of Nome; and her granddaughters, Michele and Deanna of Anchorage. Arrangements are under the direction of Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
