Anchorage resident Alfonzo "Al" Johnson, 64, died of natural causes June 14, 2006, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. A viewing was held at Witzleben's Bragaw Chapel. A service was after the viewing.
Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 30, 1941, in Ferriday, La., to Louis and Cornelia Hamilton Taylor. He graduated from Sevier High School. He moved to Anchorage in 1982. Mr. Johnson worked on various construction jobs throughout Anchorage with Local 341 Labors Union from 1982 until 1999. His last employment was with Stewart Construction until his retirement in 1999. He was affiliated with Eastside United Pentecostal Church. His family said: "Al was a very fun-loving, kind and gentle giant. He loved to laugh, eat his beans and rice, and watch his Westerns. He enjoyed the little things in life. He will be sorely missed by his family and will forever be in our hearts and minds until we meet again."
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Dee Dee; daughters, Ebony, Darlene and Cornelia of Anchorage, Cornelia "Althea" Barton of Memphis, Tenn., Dana of Baton Rouge, La., and Misty Dawn Johnson of Orange, Texas; stepdaughter, Jessica of Anchorage; sons, Brian of Baton Rouge and Lamarcus Demetrius Johnson of Orange; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Sherri Hamilton of Matteson, Ill.; and sister, Louise Taylor of St. Joseph, La. He was preceded in death by his brother, John.
