TUESDAY MORNING - PRELIMINARY TRAIL HELD WEDNESDAY -CORMER AND D. THOMPSON bound over and now in jail charged with the murder of Jones.
Tuesday morning at 06:30 o’clock A.C. Jones was found lying in a ditch by the side of the public road about a 100 yards from the end of the T.A.G. railroad tunnel on the east side of Pigeon Mountain.
Physicians were summoned and found that in addition to minor bruises -his skull was seriously fractured. He was brought to his home in Linwood, where he died Tuesday afternoon at 01:30 o’clock.
Will Cromer and Joel Thompson had been out all of Monday night where put arrest.
At the preliminary trail before Coroner Wednesday morning it was brought out that Thompson, Cromer & Jones had been out all of Monday night and had been drinking rather heavily. Cromer & Thompson claim that Jones was in the car alone on the back seat coming down the mountain and when they missed him out of the car they returned and found him lying in the ditch. They left him and returned to LaFayette.
Cromer and Thompson were bound over by the Coroner’s jury without bond for further investigation by the Grand Jury. Isom Lee was also recommended to be held under a $100.00 bond as a witness in the case.
